Frequently Asked Questions
- What should I bring to my sailing course ?
-
The sailing school has almost everything you need for your sailing course or camp. That being said, there are a couple items that you will need :
- Water appropriate clothing (bathing suit, etc.)
- Change of clothes
- Towel
- Water bottle
- Lunch (if you are staying the whole day)
- Snacks (especially for the 4 to 11 year olds)
- Sunscreen (even when it's cloudy !)
- Closed water shoes. Sandals should be avoided because they don't protect the toes. Crocs™ are somewhat better, but they have the tendency to float away to sea. Any other form of submersible shoe is suitable
Depending upon the weather, the following items might also be necessary
- Windbreaker
- Warm liner (example: fleece or polyester jacket)
- Hat
The following items are useful, but mostly for people looking to continue sailing. They are presented here in approximate order of value per dollar.
- FOX 40 whistle
- Waterproof pants
- PFD designed for water sports (sailing, kayak, etc.; greatly facilitates movements)
- Sailing gloves (on the long terme, true sailing gloves are a better value as they last much longer).
- Wetsuit (short and/or long, depending on your needs and the temperatures in which you wish to be able to sail)
- Knife (choose a model that resists water with a blade that can be opened with a single hand)
- Smock (nearly waterproof jacket; fairly expensive)
Finally, the following items are to be avoided :
- Cotton clothing (cotton sucks heat away from the body)
- Raincoat or rainboots (restrict movements too much
No matter the weather, always prepare to go sailing and be ready to get wet from head to toe. That way you'll avoid unpleasant suprises.
